80s-90s Facing Beauties: Italian Fashion & Japanese Fashion
at a glance
This exhibition offered a comparative look at two of the most creative decades in global fashion history. 'Facing Beauties' analyzed Italian and Japanese aesthetics during the 1980s and 1990s, highlighting how these two cultures redefined the concept of beauty and body. The project showcased Segre-Reinach’s signature transcultural approach, bridging the gap between Western tailoring traditions and the avant-garde visions emerging from the East.
Drawn from the Archivi di Ricerca Mazzini di Massa Lombarda, a selection of signature outfits showcases the prêt-à-porter by Italian designers including Armani, Versace, Ferré, Moschino, Coveri as well as the radical fashion by Japanese designers in Paris, such as Miyake, Kawakubo and Yamamoto.
The opening featured Akiko Fukai, Director and Chief Curator of the Kyoto Costume Institute, and Tamami Suoh, Curator of the Kyoto Costume Institute, in conversation with the fashion designer Romeo Gigli.
